Electron - atom interaction

In TEM a thin specimen is illuminated with electrons, the primary electrons. This section details some of the interactions between those electrons and the specimen.

What is meant by 'thin' for a TEM specimen? Consider this in terms of the previous simulation and bear it in mind during later parts of this module.
