Stokes Law states that for spherical particles:

- u is the terminal upward velocity of the
inclusion
- g is 9.81 m s-1
- d is the inclusion diameter [m]
- ∂ρ is the difference in densities between the liquid steel
and inclusion [kg m-3], and
- η is the molten steel viscosity [N s m-2]
Everything else being equal, the rate of inclusion flotation is directly
proportional to the square of its diameter.
