Eutectic Solidification

Note that the treatment is equally applicable to eutectoid growth (e.g. pearlite in steels) except that lateral solute diffusion occurs in a parent phase which is solid, so that the appropriate value of DL is several orders of magnitude smaller. This effect is partly offset, however, by the smaller DHf value for a solid state transformation and the product Vl2 is typically about 10-18 m3 s-1.
