Introduction

In this experiment, you are going to measure the Young modulus of steel the form of a wire, using the apparatus shown.

• Two long, identical steel wires are hung from a beam.  The blue test wire and green reference wire are linked by a vernier scale.

• A small mass is attached to the reference wire to remove any kinks.  A loading "tray" is attached to the test wire.  This will hold the weights and also removes any kinks.
