  Introduction to diffraction      

Learning Objectives:

After completing this section you should be able to:

  • state why diffraction techniques are important;
  • explain in simple terms why diffraction effects occur for radiation incident on crystalline materials; and
  • state the relationship between the size of the wavelength of the incident radiation and the size of the scatterers for diffraction effects to be observed.
