Diffraction patterns - print menu

The six diffraction patterns are provided as negatives (to save printer ink) for you to print out.  Click on each pattern for a full-size version and then print it out.

Instructions:

  1. Click on each pattern for a full-size version and then print it out.
  2. Use the ratio technique to index the pattern.  You will need a ruler to measure the distance between spots.
  3. Use the table of ratios for the appropriate crystal structure (fcc or bcc) to identify the diffracting planes.
  4. Now determine the zone axis by calculating the vector product of any two spots.
  5. Repeat for all the different patterns.
