  1. identical,
  2. long.

(2) In a second experiment, the test wire was replaced by one having a smaller diameter.   Discuss, with reasons for your answers, whether this change would be likely to increase or decrease the accuracy of the result you would obtain for the Young Modulus.

(3) Extension v Applied Force Graph imagegraphs for copper and steel are shown plotted on the same axes.  Which material is the stiffer?  Explain how you obtained your answer.

(4) Under what conditions is the definition of the Young Modulus true?  Explain why the test wire was unloaded to zero and the value of the extension checked.

You have now completed this exercise.  Before you quit the package, return to the title page and check that the learning outcomes have been achieved.
